Modagrafics Adds Rho 312R as Centerpiece

Fleet Graphics Innovator Modagrafics Installs Three-‐Meter Durst Rho 312R Printer To Drive New Patented Production Process

‘The speed, print quality and software functionality will elevate our business to a whole new level’

Rolling Meadows, Ill., April 29, 2016 – Modagrafics, one of North America’s leading innovators in fleet graphics and large-‐format digital printing, has selected Durst’s three-‐meter Rho 312R UV inkjet digital roll printer as the centerpiece of its new patented print production process, the company announced today. The new printer was installed last month.

“Modagrafics is developing a new patented production process, and the Durst technology actually enables the front end of this process,” Paul Pirkle, President and CEO of Modagrafics, said of the versatile, precision-‐printing Rho 312R. “The print head and carriage design, ink transfer and functionality of the software and electronics – especially in how you can manipulate and manage your production flow – really sold us.

“We’re fleet branding specialists that serve top consumer brands, trucking fleets and other marketers who connect with the world on the open road,” Pirkle continued. “For more and more brands, fleet graphics present a tremendously affordable and effective advertising medium. We’re expanding our manufacturing platform to accommodate growing demand. At this point we felt Durst was the best way to advance our digital production capabilities and bring our clients the latest and best solutions.”

“We are pleased that Modagrafics has selected Durst to be its platform of choice,” said Tim Saur, CEO of Durst North America. “We are very excited to be an integral part of their new patented production process, and we look forward to a continuing relationship built on innovation and shared goals.”

Rho 312R
The three-‐meter (10.5-‐foot) Rho 312R is equipped with Durst’s high-‐performance 12-‐picoliter Quadro™ Array print head technology – complete with the company’s Variodrop and grayscale innovations. It outputs extremely high image quality for eye-‐level applications on a variety of films and textiles. According to Durst, the Rho 312R’s image quality effectively rivals legendary Lambda photographic output.

Output speeds go as high as 2,900 s.f./hr. and highest-‐quality backlit mode at 750 s.f./hr. The Rho 312R uses the full range of Durst inks, including PCS (Process Color Additions) orange and violet. Its workflow options include an integrated border cutting system, simultaneous dual (1.6m / 5.25 ft.) roll printing, and double-‐sided printing.

The 312R’s capabilities, Pirkle said, will help assure that Modagrafics can continue to satisfy its clients’ increasingly high standards. “Our customer mix is such that they are very demanding on quality, and we want to make sure for years to come that we will deliver that quality,” he said. “The speed, print quality, software functionality and other operational efficiencies of the Durst printer will elevate our business to a whole new level. These factors were very important in our decision process.”

Looking at the entire experience, which included a visit to Durst’s R&D and manufacturing facilities in Lienz, Austria, Pirkle said Modagrafics is “very pleased with Durst. We had certain expectations and everyone involved in this process reaffirms that we made the right decision to buy this printer. From the commissioning process to training and support, it has been phenomenal. We like to find partners with quality and cultural aspirations that match our own. Durst is truly a partner that matches well with our philosophy.”
